While this day is most synonymous with the attack on Pearl Harbor, it also happens to be the birthday of my late Grandfather. He would later enlist in the Navy after those events and ended up painting aircraft, as he happened to be pretty good with the paintbrush. Something I vividly remember from my childhood was a cherry blossom branch that he had painted in the living room of the house he and my grandmother owned. I was just fascinated by it and it was one of the first things I can remember that I could appreciate for it's aesthetic beauty. I grew up thinking, still do, that once I get my dream home that I would recreate the scene in a prominent part of the house. So a little remembrance for a man who who helped start my creative endeavors at an early age.
